"To me, bravery means stepping outside outside my comfort zone even if I'm unsure what will come of it. It's having fear but not letting that fear dictate my actions." - Kate, Age 17

"Bravery means taking the initiative to make your dreams into realities. It's about taking that leap of faith to get from your comfort zone into the unknown where everything is possible!" - Carlin, Age 16

What is BraveCamp?

The Brave Team is on a mission to empower young women to view themselves as purposeful, powerful agents of change in the world. As technology becomes a growing industry and a leading topic of discussion, we have developed a program that integrates social impact projects, design thinking strategy and web development through coding. The goal of each camp is to challenge girls to step outside of their comfort zones to explore the greater purpose of technology, while guiding them to see themselves as the authors of their own lives. Through hands on learning, games, mentorship and leadership activities, each student will complete our program feeling empowered, supported and purposeful in a new way.

<Why learn to code?>

ACADEMIC ADVANTAGES

Learning computer programming requires one to see the solution as a step by step process, developing critical thinking skills and leading students to apply this thinking strategy to academia. Students who have learned to code often perform better in the classroom as well as on homework and  standardized tests.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

Learning to code, students will be able to demonstrate their ability to think critically. It will also increase their aptitude to be taught in different environments. They will be able to demonstrate learned content on applications by including a few lines of code or links to sites created.

FUTURE CAREERS

By 2020 there will be over 1.4 million job opportunities in the tech field, yet only an estimated 400,000 computer science graduates. Each day we see the use of technology increase in our lives, educationally, medically and economically.
